New Income Opportunities
As Mayor, I propose to create a “central grant-writing” professional position. This expert will focus solely on acquiring funds and funding for public safety, youth, senior and social justice success enhancement systems and programs. I pledge to personally lobby legislators in San Bernardino County, Sacramento and Washington D.C. to ensure Barstow (our town) receives its fair share of funding for all programs and systems that the City of Barstow qualifies for and deserves . . . #BarstowStrong!

The first position funded by Measure Q, even before new police, fire, park and recreation and community development should have been a grant writer. In fact, this should be a whole department. This should be common sense. But, even those positions must be filled by people with a global vision. Sometimes government funding is either too restrictive and will not allow for innovation, or it is too non-restrictive and it allows for fraud, waste and abuse. A grant writer needs to be willing to look to non-governmental funding, (foundations and corporations) to enhance community services and opportunities. Someone needs to have a vision that is not in a government box.
The city should be aware of the service providers and non-profits in the community and should be aware of their effectiveness and appropriateness. I do have ideas as to how that can happen. City involvement can help to address duplication of services and opportunist structures that do not help a community to thrive. It is time that we teach someone to fish.,

Why is it necessary to hire a central grant writing professional? Paul you are a PHD, you IF elected should be the writer as part of being Mayor and for the good of the city.
