Barstow Welcomes Food Trucks!

As a reminder in March of this year the Barstow City Council approved the opportunity to operate “Mobile Food-Facilities” also known as “Food Trucks” within City limits, increasing economic development opportunities for those looking to create or expand their business outreach.

Ordinance 971-2021 allows for mobile food facilities where catering trucks, hot food trucks and ice cream vehicles can now serve residents and workers throughout the City.

The ordinance will allow for direct food sales at construction sites and building developments, locations where employees or residents have limited to no transportation but are looking to purchase food from fully licensed vendors and businesses, as well as meeting the needs of employees who have limited timeframes during their lunch hour and are looking to avoid long lines and crowds during peak lunch timeframes.“

I am very proud that the Council passed an ordinance that will allow further competition in the market place by increasing economic opportunities here at home,” stated Barstow Mayor Paul Anthony Courtney. “Location is key and time is equally important when we talk about convenience in meeting the food consumption demands of an every busy and changing world.”

Vendors seeking to acquire a Mobile Food Permit must meet the guidelines established which include acquiring a County Health permit as well as the City approval application process.

For information on the application process contact the City’s Building and Planning Department at 760-255-5161.
